Set years before the formation of the modern team, the original government-sanctioned squad led by Battlestone is deployed to the Middle East to halt an Iraqi invasion. While the mission is a tactical success, the victory is short-lived when a reckless colonel is killed by a booby trap, igniting a heated confrontation between the surviving members. In a moment of uncontrollable rage, Battlestone accidentally kills one of his own men, an act of insubordination that leads to his immediate court-martial and removal from power. This devastating fallout forces the government to reboot the program, paving the way for a new generation of celebrity heroes and the introduction of a by-the-book leader named Shaft.
