Comic Book Grading Guide

Every comic tells a story — but the condition of that comic tells a story too. From flawless treasures to well-loved survivors, grading is how collectors measure the true power level of their books. Here’s your crash course in the official comic book grading scale, the shorthand of heroes, dealers, and fans alike!

THE GRADING SCALE

MINT (MT | 10.0)
A comic so perfect it’s practically untouchable. Crisp, flawless, immortal.

NEAR MINT (NM | 9.2–9.9)
Sharp, dazzling, almost perfect. Only the tiniest of flaws stand between it and true Mint glory.

VERY FINE (VF | 7.0–9.0)
Bright, clean, with only the faintest battle scars.

FINE (FN | 5.0–6.5)
Solid, sturdy, dependable. A proud survivor with a little edge wear from the fight.

VERY GOOD (VG | 3.0–4.5)
Well-read but still valiant. A comic that’s seen some adventures yet remains complete and collectible.

GOOD (GD | 1.8–2.5)
Worn and weary, with creases, tears, or stains, but the full story still shines through.

FAIR (FR | 1.0–1.5)
Battered and bruised. Pages may be brittle, but the heart of the tale endures.

POOR (PR | 0.5)
Missing pieces and heavy damage, but sometimes the only way to hold history in your hands!

WHY IT MATTERS

Grading is the universal language of collectors. It’s how we know whether a comic is a gem worthy of preservation or a battle-worn copy made to be read and enjoyed. Every grade has value. Every book has a destiny.
