While Bishop and Professor X test a newly repaired Cerebro, a massive energy spike in New Jersey leads an X-Men investigation to a commuter train filled with grotesquely mutated passengers. Beast, Bishop, and Gambit quickly discover that these transformations are contagious and must fight to stop the vessel before it crashes into Manhattan and spreads the infection to the general population. As the team splits up to secure the engine, Beast comes face-to-face with the sinister mastermind behind the horror: Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Cyclops and Jean Grey attempt a quiet family visit that is quickly overshadowed by the looming political threat of Graydon Creed's anti-mutant presidential campaign.
