Millions of years ago, a catastrophic collision between alien Batai and T'srri warships in Earth's orbit triggered a global firestorm and the extinction of the dinosaurs. In the present day, Colonel Tyson Stone investigates a mysterious complex on the moon, only to be possessed by a parasitic alien circuit after his crew is slaughtered by a monstrous guardian. Back on Earth, Stone’s transformation leads to a violent confrontation with his wife, Annalee, who reveals her own hidden knowledge of the T'srri as she fights to exorcise the extraterrestrial technology from his body. This prologue sets the stage for a new generation of warriors to emerge from a conflict that has shaped human history since its inception.
