Venom finds himself a helpless prisoner of the Life Foundation in the Mojave Desert, where his captors painfully extract five symbiotic seeds to create a new breed of super-powered guardians. While Carlton Drake schemes to eliminate Eddie Brock once his usefulness is exhausted, Spider-Man arrives in California to investigate reports of lethal creatures and is thrust into a fierce battle with the first female symbiote at a local mall. Although the wall-crawler manages to drive off the inexperienced attacker, he is left unaware that four more mature symbiotes are waiting in the wings to destroy him. As the web-slinger hitches a ride to the Foundation's compound, a desperate Venom manages to exploit his human form to begin a daring escape from his high-tech sonic cage.
