As various mutant teams gather for the somber funeral of Illyana Rasputin, the mourning is shattered by the dramatic return of Magneto and his loyal Acolytes. The Master of Magnetism asserts his power by freezing the X-Men in place and offering them sanctuary aboard his orbital station, Avalon, while simultaneously executing one of his own to enforce his authority. In a shocking betrayal fueled by grief and disillusionment with Professor Xavier's dream, Colossus turns his back on his teammates to join Magneto’s cause. The intense confrontation culminates with Xavier using his telepathic abilities to forcefully hurl Magneto and his base back into space, leaving the X-Men fractured and facing an escalating war.
