After being betrayed and murdered by his own agency, elite assassin Al Simmons strikes a desperate bargain with the demonic Malebolgia to see his wife once more. He returns to Earth as a Hellspawn, a superpowered and hideously scarred being with only fragmented memories of his former life. Discovering that five years have passed and his widow has moved on, Al must now navigate a gritty world of corruption and supernatural threats while resisting the manipulative guidance of the grotesque Clown. This debut issue marks the beginning of his transformation from a government killer into a reluctant anti-hero caught in an eternal war between Heaven and Hell.
