Haunted by the memory of his lost love Shalla-Bal, the Silver Surfer is drawn out of his solitary mourning when Pip the Troll delivers a cryptic message from Adam Warlock. Warlock makes a staggering claim that Shalla-Bal is not truly dead, but has been dimensionally scattered, and offers to help Norrin Radd retrieve her in exchange for a future favor. Alongside the Infinity Watch, the heroes combine the power cosmic with the Soul and Mind Gems to open a portal to the metaphysical plane, only to be met by an onslaught of vicious demons. While they successfully materialize a physical form for the Zenn-Lavian Empress, the victory is bittersweet as they realize her body remains a hollow shell without her soul.
