Ray Terrill's life as a hero starts with a literal bang as he finds himself in a desperate struggle against the colossal, technoseed-fueled Brimstone. Between getting used to his first apartment above a pizza shop and enduring a shift as a fast-food chicken mascot, Ray struggles to balance mundane responsibilities with his volatile light powers. When his cousin convinces him to fly to Hawaii, a simple vacation turns into a bickering battle alongside Superboy to contain the fiery giant. The encounter leaves Ray questioning his future as a protector after he inadvertently drains his energy and fears he has critically injured his new ally.
