The New Mutants face a horrific ordeal as the twisted Ani-Mator holds them captive, preparing to subject the young heroes to his gruesome experiments. A timely interruption from the Ani-Mator's supervisor allows the team to break free from his sinister grip. Magik, Sunspot, and Wolfsbane manage to save the vulnerable animals trapped on the island, but their victory is bittersweet, coming at a devastating personal cost.
