In the story "Tooth and Nail," Morbius the Living Vampire confronts the Basilisk, a monster named Wayne Gifford who willingly gave up his humanity. As Morbius battles this foe across the city, he struggles with the dark motivations that drive a person to embrace such monstrous transformation. Meanwhile, a man known as Shroud plots against Morbius and hires the monster hunter Vic Slaughter to track him down, setting the stage for the next bloody encounter.
