The lord of the underworld, Mephisto, draws the Fantastic Four into his sinister domain, seeking to claim a powerful innocent soul. One by one, the heroes are trapped in his realm until the Invisible Woman is forced to make a terrible choice. Fearing for the safety of her family, Sue Storm sacrifices her own soul to the devil in exchange for her teammates' lives. This marks the beginning of Mephisto's quest to acquire an innocent soul by battling various super-hero teams.
