Emerging from his cardboard box home to rescue a woman in an alley, a hulking, purple-clad homeless man finds himself swiftly thrown behind bars by indifferent police. Bailed out by social worker Julie Winters, the troubled hero struggles to separate everyday reality from "The Outback," a surreal dreamscape where he acts as the noble protector of a fierce Leopard Queen. Unbeknownst to Julie, a shadowy predator named Mr. Gone begins making sinister phone calls while unleashing eerie creatures known as Isz. As the boundary between fantasy and reality continues to dissolve, Maxx sets out to shield his savior, leading to a tense showdown at a local gas station.
