In a gritty urban landscape, a muscular, purple-suited vagrant named the Maxx lives in a cardboard box, believing himself to be a powerful superhero. He shifts involuntarily between these stark city streets and a surreal, primordial dream realm called the Outback, where he acts as the noble protector of the majestic Jungle Queen. In the real world, his only true ally is Julie Winters, a fiercely independent freelance social worker who frequently bails him out of trouble, completely unaware of their bizarre, deeply intertwined psychological connection. Meanwhile, a manipulative, telepathic serial rapist named Mr. Gone lurks in the shadows, holding the dangerous secrets to both of their fragile realities.
