A quest to retrieve a powerful magic harmonica and track down a mysterious Valkyrie imposter leads the Thing to Cobbler's Roost, Vermont. There, he confronts the Enchantress and the Executioner, only to witness the Enchantress expose the true Valkyrie as Barbara Norris and threaten universal destruction with the artifact. With the fate of reality hanging in the balance, Alvin Denton makes the ultimate sacrifice, enabling the Thing to use the harmonica to reverse the catastrophic damage caused by the Asgardian villains. The victory is bittersweet as the true Valkyrie mourns the loss of the man she had just realized was her father.
