In the future, three young heroes—lightning-powered Garth Ranzz, magnetic Rokk Krinn, and telepath Imra Ardeen—cross paths on a space shuttle bound for Earth. When a sudden assassination attempt is made on billionaire R.J. Brande, the trio spontaneously uses their unique abilities to thwart the attack and save his life. Impressed by their heroic teamwork, Brande is inspired to create a super-team of individuals from various planets, recruiting the three teenagers to form the first iteration of the Legion of Super-Heroes. However, the true mastermind behind the attack, Brande's business partner Roderick Doyle, continues to plot against Brande and the new United Planets initiative.
