The villain Despero arrives on Earth, enraged to find a new Justice League, and immediately vows to make their replacements suffer. As Despero transforms Gotham City into a nightmarish vision of hell and turns civilians into demonic creatures, a date night for Bruce Wayne and Mari McCabe is brutally interrupted, leading to Batman and Vixen being swiftly defeated and captured. Meanwhile, the imprisoned Zatanna desperately attempts to escape before her captor, Adam, can complete a procedure to give himself magical powers. The rest of the League must rush to Gotham to confront Despero and save their captured teammates and the city.
