As key members of the Justice League lie hospitalized, Black Canary and Elongated Man stumble upon a mysterious conspiracy led by the Royal Flush Gang's mastermind, Hector Hammond. Hammond's mental power silences the captured Ten of Spades, but the immaterial Professor Martin Stein of Firestorm wages a desperate mental battle against him. While the battle rages, a surprise alliance with one of the Gang members helps Black Canary defeat the remaining foes, and Stein's ultimate victory causes the League members to finally recover.
