After clearing his name with the police, Luke Cage reaches an understanding with Dr. Noah Burstein to continue his hero-for-hire operations under a watchful eye. The fragile peace is shattered late at night when a desperate Vietnam veteran named Owen Ridgley arrives to warn Cage of a dangerous terrorist militia led by Colonel Gideon Mace, who plans to cripple Manhattan by bombing its bridges and power stations. When Mace's assassins ambush them and fatally shoot Ridgley, the dying man hands Cage his final payment with a plea to halt the impending disaster. Cage tracks the militia to their hideout and engages in a brutal showdown with Mace, eventually leaping onto the villain's escaping helicopter to take down the aircraft over the Hudson River.
