The mutant warrior Cable finds himself in a treacherous meeting with an imposter: the nefarious Dark Beast, who has secretly assumed the identity of the X-Men's resident scientist. As Cable tries to unravel the mystery behind his mentor's alleged death, he struggles with the escalating threat of his T-O virus, weakened since his recent conflict with Nate Grey. During his investigation, Cable crosses paths with the powerful mutant Post, triggering flashbacks to their initial encounter and reminding him of his duty to save the powerful youth he once protected.
