The Askani Clan hails Nathan Dayspring as the long-awaited Askani'son, but the celebration is cut short when Haight's Canaanite forces attack Ebonshire. Nathan learns from Blaquesmith that his true teacher is the mysteriously frozen Aliya, just before he is forced to shield her from the invaders. The treacherous attack results in Madame Sanctity being teleported to Stryfe's ship, seemingly killed, leading to an uneasy alliance between her and Stryfe. Nathan and Aliya are taken to Haight, as the struggle for the future intensifies.
