In a bleak future, a decade after Apocalypse's defeat, the oppressive New Canaanites have seized control of the world. A teenage Nathan Dayspring, the man destined to become Cable, and his friend Tetherblood are arrested for inciting dissent against the new regime. While in custody, Nathan is introduced to a mysterious figure known only as "Professor," who speaks of a legend involving the X-Men and his own estranged parents, setting him on a path to confront his past and his greatest rival, Stryfe.
