The culmination of a grim future's mystery arrives as the time traveler, Waverider, attempts to unmask the tyrannical Monarch. However, a tragic miscalculation involving Captain Atom inadvertently inspires the hero to release the armored tyrant from the Quantum Field where he was imprisoned. With Monarch now free in 1991 and aware of Waverider's mission, the Flash must intervene as a furious battle breaks out between Captain Atom and the future dictator, sending both through a temporal portal. This epic confrontation sets the stage for a new crisis as the secret of Monarch's true identity is revealed.
