Ben Reilly is back in New York as Spider-Man, but finds a world that has largely moved past the need for his heroism and is wary of a perceived imposter. He struggles to find his footing, especially when he runs into an unwelcoming Human Torch who views the new web-slinger with suspicion. The situation is further complicated by the fact that one of Spider-Man's classic foes, the Sandman, has unexpectedly become a respected hero. This "new" Spider-Man must prove his legitimacy while navigating shifting loyalties and dealing with the city's changing perceptions of its protectors.
