Big Barda arrives unexpectedly in the slums of Metropolis, where she immediately intervenes in a street crime before having her own purse snatched by an Ash-Crawler. Believing Superman to be involved in a villainous plot to break her, Barda attacks the Man of Steel with her Mega-Rod. Before the confrontation can escalate, the manipulator Sleez strips Barda of her weapon and places both the powerful heroine and Superman under his hypnotic control.
